Welcome to the McCoy Counseling Website!
My name is Hannah McCoy and I'm so excited to work with you this year! This will be my 11th year in Georgetown ISD and my fifth year as the school counselor at McCoy. I have taught third grade, resource, and special education at Pickett Elementary. I have also taught 5th grade math at Frost Elementary and three summers at summer school.
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Special Education from Sam Houston State University in 2013. After several years of teaching, I knew that I wanted to work in a role where I could support a wide variety of students and began my journey to becoming a school counselor. I graduated from Lamar University with my Master’s Degree in School Counseling in 2017. I'm currently in the process of becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and recently completed my Clinical Mental Health Counseling Ceritifcate program through Lamar University in May of 2022.
Here at McCoy Elementary, I will provide school-wide guidance lessons for all Pre-K – 5th grade classes. These lessons are based on competencies outlined in The Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs, developed by the Texas Education Agency. In order to meet the needs of all students, I will also hold small group sessions, lunch bunches, and short term individual counseling sessions.
When I’m not at work, I love to work out and spend time with my husband and our two rescue dogs, Charlie and Leo. I'm a huge fan of Disney, unicorns, and coffee.
I look forward to working with you this year! Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Frequently Asked Questions for Elementary School Counselors
1. What do you do at school?
School counselors design and implement social and emotional supports for students, parents, and staff members. This includes teaching guidance lessons in the classrooms, holding small group counseling sessions, consulting with parents and teachers, and short-term individual counseling sessions.
School counselors are everyday members of the school team! There are times when we step in to mediate typical school disagreements or talk a student through an unusually bad day or situational challenge. In these singular instances, you may not be notified.
I will make parent contact when a student is unable to regain emotional composure in a reasonable amount of time and/or if I see that he or she may benefit from counseling more often. In that case, parents will be consulted and asked to sign consent for ongoing school counseling.
It is important to note that while counseling sessions are confidential and private, many times parents and teachers benefit greatly from knowing about various strategies and techniques the students are learning. At this young age, students need modeling, support, and reinforcement for learning social and emotional skills. In those situations, I am upfront with the students about what I will share with specific important people in their lives.
The average caseload for an outside counselor or therapist ranges from 20 to 40 clients. Therefore, outside counselors are able to attend to deep and ongoing needs for potentially extended periods of time. The focus of outside counseling can include school challenges, but also addresses family systems issues and/or specific mental health and clinically significant emotional conditions.
