My Education & Teaching Background
Welcome to First Grade! I was born in New York and have lived in Texas for most of my life; since 8th grade. I graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a BBA in Data Processing and Analysis and worked as a Project Manager at CSC (Insurance Software Developer) before pursuing my dream of teaching. I am certified in Early Childhood - 6th Grade, as well as, GT (Gifted & Talented) and ESL (English Second Language).
I served as PTA Vice President of Fundraising for 7 years at the former McCoy where my children attended. I taught Title(reading and math; grades 3-5) for 2 years at McCoy before getting my First Grade classroom at the "new" McCoy. My eleven years in the classroom have been a memorable and extremely rewarding experience. I am excited about this year and look forward to watching my new scholars grow physically, socially and intellectually!
Georgetown has been my home since 1994 where my husband, Dave, and I have raised our 3 children, Eric (2014 UT Grad) who completed his MBA at Rice and resides in Houstoin, Emily (2017 UT Grad) who lives in NYC and works as a Creative Director and Amanda (2015 GHS Salutatorian) who graduated from Houston Baptist University and completed a very successful 4-year career on the Women's basketball team. She is in Baltimore at The Johns Hopkins University pursuing her Doctorate in Biomedical Science. We love our pets! We are blessed to have our yellow lab, Beau. This summer we got our chocolate lab pup, Bnadon. We also have 2 "neighborhood" cats, Boots and Ugg (funny story ... ask me sometime). I LOVE sports (and teamwork) and enjoy crafting, hiking, golf, Jazzercising and graphic artistry. I am very proud that our daughter, Amanda, designed the McCoy Bobcat logo. I am thrilled to be teaching in GISD where my children received their quality and empowering education.
Class/Course Information
I am excited about our First Grade team of teachers and look forward to a year of collaboration and team growth; we will strive to make this a great year for your scholar. I am excited to be part of McCoy and the amazing opportunities that await your scholar.
My hope and desire is to inspire the scholars in my class to have a positive attitude, confidence and the ability to accept challenges no matter how big. I want to use my knowledge, experiences and ingenuity to excite my students about learning and foster creativity and help them reach their full potential. Most of all, I want to instill in my scholars the value of an education and the endless possibilities for success when you have knowledge, self-respect and determination.
There will be an abundance of hugs, encouragement, learning, giggles and friendship in our class. Our class motto is "Together, Everyone Achieves More". Please do not hesitate to contact me with concerns or questions. Partnering with me in communication will ensure that this year is a successful and growing year. Go McCoy Bobcats!
